Lt Colonel Banks Midddleton
It is with great sadness and regret that I have to inform you of the passing of one of our Founding Life members, Lt Colonel Banks Midddleton, who helped Major Tony Hibbert establish the Arnhem Fellowship.
Prior to this he assisted with the Arnhem Veterans Club and was treasurer of the Arnhem Fellowship for several years following its establishment. Banks was well liked by those who came into contact with him and many of of our Trustees, present and former, have paid tributes to him.
Bob Hilton knew him as a soldier and then as a volunteer at the Airborne Assault Museum ‘Banks was already a very senior soldier when I joined the battalion (in 1982) – he was the Quartermaster (Technical), 2 PARA (in the Falklands) – a former R.S.M. that had been Commissioned. As such I never got to know him during my service, only afterwards through my volunteer work with the Museum. Contact was only ever fleeting, he was never in the limelight, but always behind the scenes. I always got the impression that without him things would ‘grind to a halt’!! A sad loss, may he Rest In Peace.’
