Some more sad news I’m afraid. The previous Arnhem Fellowship President (2013 to 2017), Major-General Keith Spacie, passed away on 16th October.

From Paradata:

Maj Gen Keith Spacie CB OBE was born in 1935 and commissioned into the Royal Lincolnshire Regiment in July 1955, awarded an MID in1958 and transferred into 3 PARA in 1960.

Among his many appointments he was DAA & QMG HQ 16 PARA Bde 1968-70, CO 3 PARA 1973-5, GSO1 SHAPE 1976-8, GSO1 (DS) NDC 1978-80. From 1983-4 he was Military Commissioner and Commander British Forces Falkland Islands and Director of Army training 1984-7.  He retired in 1987.

Keith’s first wife Valerie died 14 years ago, and he subsequently married Clare who survives him. He will be especially remembered for his love of long distance running and in 2012 was chosen to carry the Olympic Torch in his local area at the age of 77. He was also a member of the world’s oldest running club, Thames Hare and Hounds.

Keith died on Sunday 16 October 2022. His funeral takes place at St Mary’s Church in Guildford on Wednesday 2 November 2022
